Environmental Geography is a project started in 2011 between the Department of Environmental Science and the Department of Informatics at Avans University of Applied Science. The goal is to bring the subjects of the Environment, Geography and Informatics together so that students can get a better understanding of the interactions that human societies have on nature. We will be literally putting the environment on the map!
Another key goal of Environmental Geography is to produce a minor curriculum of 1 semester, within which the students follow courses virutally. This means that all data, presentations, assignments, quizzes and interactions with students can be done online. This is done by intensively using instructional videos, online testing tools, digital assignments and social media (Facebook, Skype, etc.). A student does not need to come to class in a physical location to take part in this minor.
